Steven L. Lewis, MD

Dr. Steven Lewis is the Physician in Chief and Chief of Neurology at the Lehigh Valley Fleming Neuroscience Institute at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, PA, where he holds the Timothy M. Breidegam Endowed Chair in Neurology. He is certified by the ABPN in Neurology and Vascular Neurology and participates in continuing certification.

He is also the liaison to the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties and the American Stroke Association. Dr. Lewis is a past Chair of the Neurology Residency Review Committee for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), served as Chair of the Neurology Milestones Working Group and Advisory Group for the Neurology Milestone Project, a joint initiative of the ACGME and the ABPN, and served on the Neurology Milestones 2.0 Working Group. He is immediate past Editor-in-Chief of Continuum: Lifelong Learning in Neurology for the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). Dr. Lewis is Secretary General of the World Federation of Neurology (WFN), Chair of the WFN Education Committee, and serves as the Editor of World Neurology. In 2019, Dr. Lewis was the recipient of the A.B. Baker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Neurologic Education from the AAN, and in 2023 he was the recipient of the American Neurological Association (ANA) Award for Excellence in Education.

Nina F. Schor, MD, PhD

Dr. Schor is currently the Deputy Director for Intramural Research of the National Institutes of Health. For 5 years, she served as the Deputy Director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke; for 11 years she served as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Rochester and Pediatrician-in-Chief of its Golisano Children's Hospital. She was President of the Child Neurology Society from 2013-2015 and Secretary of the American Neurological Association from 2009-2013.

She is certified by the ABPN in Neurology with Special Qualifications in Child Neurology and participates in continuing certification. As an ABPN Director, Dr. Schor serves on the Executive Committee as Board Chair and on the Neurology Council as Chair.

She was previously a member of the Science Committee of the AAN from 2009-2015 and 2018-2022 and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders NST-1 Study Section from 2008-2015. She is also an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Schor’s research program was continuously nationally funded from 1989-2017 and focused on the design and preclinical testing of targeted therapies for neuroblastoma.

Imran I. Ali, MD, FAAN

Dr. Ali is Professor of Neurology at University of Toledo, College of Medicine and is currently the Clair Martig Endowed Chair of Neurology. He recently served as Vice Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education prior to taking on his role as the Chair. He was appointed in July 2017 as the Inaugural Chair of the newly formed Department of Medical Education at University of Toledo and served in that role until his most recent appointment.

He is certified by the ABPN in Neurology, Epilepsy, and Clinical Neurophysiology and participates in continuing certification. As an ABPN Director, Dr. Ali serves on the Neurology Council and many other ABPN committees.

Dr. Ali is recognized as an outstanding teacher and has received many teaching awards, including the Deans Award for Teaching Excellence. Dr. Ali is listed in the Best Doctors of America; he also received the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award twice and was also inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Erika Fullwood Augustine, MD, MS

Dr. Erika Fullwood Augustine is Associate Chief Science Officer at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Associate Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Her clinical research program focuses on advancing therapeutic development for rare pediatric neurological disorders, with emphasis on comprehensive clinical phenotyping and trial design in the neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses.

Dr. Augustine is an Executive Committee member of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders (NINDS) Child Neurology Career Development (K12) Program, leads the Minority Research Scholars Program, and is Associate Editor for Annals of Neurology. She also serves as a board member for the American Brain Coalition. Dr. Augustine is a prior recipient of the Sidney Carter Award from the American Academy of Neurology.

Amy Brooks-Kayal, MD

Dr. Brooks-Kayal is Professor and Chair of Neurology, and the Andrew John Gabor, MD, PhD Presidential Endowed Chair at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine in Sacramento, CA. Previously, she was Professor of Pediatrics and Neurology at University of Colorado School of Medicine, where she served as Chief and Ponzio Family Chair in Pediatric Neurology for 12 years. She was a principal investigator and co-director of the Translational Epilepsy Research Program at University of Colorado. Dr. Brooks-Kayal is recognized as an international expert in the field of epilepsy and has received an American Epilepsy Society (AES) Founders Award and was named an Ambassador for Epilepsy by the International League Against Epilepsy in recognition of her record of lifetime achievement in the field of epilepsy.

She is certified by the ABPN in Epilepsy and Neurology with Special Qualifications in Child Neurology and participates in continuing certification. As an ABPN Director, Dr. Brooks-Kayal serves on the Neurology Council and several ABPN committees.

She is also the liaison to the AES and the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Dr. Brooks-Kayal currently serves on the Executive Committee of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders (NINDS) Child Neurology Career Development (K12) Program, on the External Advisory Board (EAB) for the NINDS Epilepsy Therapy Screening Program and as Associate Editor for Epilepsy for the Annals of Neurology. She was previously President of AES, councilor of the Professors of Child Neurology (PCN), executive councilor of the American Neurological Association, and member of the NINDS Advisory Council.

Ericka P. Greene, MD, MACM

Dr. Greene is Professor of Clinical Neurology at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York, and at Houston Methodist Hospital. She is the Sumner Family Chair in Neuromuscular Research at Houston Methodist, Full Clinical Member, Houston Methodist Research Institute and Vice Chair of Education in Neurology. She is also the Associate Dean of Clinical Integration at Texas A & M School of Engineering Medicine. She is certified by the ABPN in Neurology and Neuromuscular Medicine and participates in continuing certification. As an ABPN director, Dr. Greene serves on the Neurology Council and many other ABPN committees.

Jaffar Khan, MD

Dr. Khan is Professor, Interim Chair, and Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Neurology at the Emory School of Medicine. He is an Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education and Graduate Medical Education.

He is certified by the ABPN in Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology and participates in continuing certification. As an ABPN Director, Dr. Khan serves on the Neurology Council and several ABPN committees.

Dr. Khan is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and has served numerous professional organizations, including Chair of the Consortium of Neurology Program Directors, Vice Chair of the AAN Education Committee, Chair of the Graduate Education Subcommittee, and Chair of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Neurology Review Committee.

Benn E. Smith, MD

Dr. Smith is Associate Professor of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, Scottsdale, Arizona. He is the Director of the Sensory Laboratory and a Consultant for the Department of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic.

He is certified by the ABPN in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology and Neuromuscular Medicine, and participates in continuing certification.  He also is certified by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. As an ABPN Director, Dr. Smith serves on the Neurology Council and many other ABPN committees.

Dr. Smith has served as the co-director of the biannual Mayo Clinic EMG/EEG Clinical Neurophysiology Course in Phoenix, Arizona, for a number of years. In addition to ABPN, he has been involved in leadership and committee positions with the AAN and AANEM for the last decade. His research focuses on measuring sensory function, identifying new patterns of peripheral neuropathy deficits and use of novel techniques such as contact heat evoked potential stimulation to study spinothalamic and other small diameter nerve fiber pathways.
