The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) will introduce a longitudinal knowledge assessment (LKA) for Sleep Medicine for ABPN Sleep Medicine diplomates with certifications due to expire in 2022. The longitudinal assessment is an alternative option to the secure, proctored continuing certification examination.
ABPN diplomates may apply for either the 2022 traditional secure, proctored examination or the new LKA using the same Sleep Medicine application available on December 1, 2021, in their ABPN Physician Portal.
Please read the Sleep Medicine Continuing Certification ‘Information for Applicants’ (IFA) document carefully for important dates and deadlines.
If your Sleep Medicine certification is due to expire in 2022 and your application is received and approved by the ABPN between December 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022, the ABIM will offer you the choice of the traditional examination or LKA. Please be aware that participation in the LKA will begin on January 4, 2022. Early participation will allow an easier path to successful participation in the new Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment.
For more information on the ABIM’s new Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment, please use this link to the ABIM website: ABIM LKA Information.
