Important Information for All ABPN Diplomates Currently Certified in Pain Medicine:

The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) is currently allowing entry into their longitudinal assessment (LA) for Pain Medicine for all current ABPN Pain Medicine diplomates.

Beginning in 2024 the ABA will no longer offer a traditional continuing certification examination for those holding current certification in Pain Medicine. ABPN diplomates will be expected to participate in the ABA’s longitudinal assessment, based on their MOCA Minute pathway, to fulfill the Part III requirement to maintain certification in Pain Medicine.

The ABPN encourages all of our Pain Medicine diplomates to enroll in the longitudinal assessment as early as possible regardless of your recertification year.

ABPN Pain Medicine diplomates are required to answer 15 questions quarterly through their ABA portal, for a total of 60 questions per calendar year. Early and continued participation in the LA will allow an easier path to successful participation in the ongoing Pain Medicine longitudinal assessment.

If you have questions about the Pain Medicine longitudinal assessment, based on the MOCA Minute, please visit the ABA website: www.theaba.org.

If you have already begun participation in the Pain Medicine Longitudinal Assessment, you may discard this message.

General continuing certification questions may be sent to questions@abpn.org.
