Why is board certification important?

A physician who is board certified has an ongoing commitment to expand his/her knowledge and take an exam every 10 years in addition to the state licensing requirements for practicing medicine. To remain board certified, he/she is required to continue to participate in educational activities that update and expand medical knowledge over the course of a career.
