Systems Development Updates

The ABPN preCERT™ Credentialing System

img
The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has concluded beta testing on a new system that is designed to assist training program directors and residents prepare for credentialing prior to Board certification. The new system allows directors to build and track residents’ progress, including clinical skills evaluations, in preparation for graduation and application to the Board for certification. The system also facilitates communication between ABPN and training programs by allowing electronic notifications to and from programs and/or individuals regarding Board examinations and credentialing requirements. Utilizing this system will eliminate the need for training program directors’ letters documenting their residents’ rotations, experiences, and graduation dates. Residents will be able to update personal information and view their training progress.

Information on the preCERT Credentialing System will be available at the annual meetings of the American Neurological Association (ANA), and the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training (AADPRT), and the American Psychiatric Association (APA).

Future enhancements to the system include management of transfers between programs and tracking the training requirements that result from transfers, as well as import functions of Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) data. Ultimately, the system will allow for electronic submission of applications to the Board for initial certification examinations.

Development of the ABPN verifyCERT™ Certification and Status Verification System

img

The ABPN is in the development stages of a new system for certification and status verification named verifyCERT. The system will allow diplomates to view their certification status and expiration dates to help in planning their MOC activities. It is expected that employers will utilize the system as a credentialing resource for Board-certification verification. The public will also be able to search for Board-certified physicians by specialty, city, and state as provided by the diplomate. The ABPN encourages all diplomates to submit address changes to the Board to facilitate functionality of this system.

The ABPN will be providing links to the systems, user HELP, and support for all users as each of the systems is implemented. Check this web site for information as it becomes available.
